Annual Amateur Golf Championship
The Spirit of America attracts some of the very best amateur golfers in the nation.
Burningtree Country Club
Burningtree Country Club, its Members and the Greater Decatur Area
have been proud to host the Spirit of America Golf Classic for more than 40 years.
The tournament lures some of the top college players as well as an influx of strong international golfers. Tournament organizers strive to attract the top 150 amateurs in the nation. Participation is limited to the 150 lowest handicaps of those applying for entry. Sanctioned by the Alabama Golf Association as a major amateur tournament, the event offers 150 amateur ranking points to the champion. This year’s winner will win a berth into a Hooters’ Tour event.
The tournament’s past fields, rich with history, read like a who’s who in golf. Current touring pros Stewart Cink, Heath Slocum, Carl Pettersson and Spike McRoy as well as senior legend Andy Bean teed it up in the Spirit tournament before joining the pro ranks.
This year donations are to be made to PACT, Parents and Children Together and The Wounded Warrior Fund. We at Burningtree are proud to be able to contribute back to the community we love.
